DONT FORGET THE BINGHAM WESTERN ON 12th SEPTEMBER, entry form
THE WINTER TIMETABLE HAS BEEN POSTED ON THE CLUB INFO PAGE
Sun 5th September 2010 On Sunday 5 September the 5 counties in the East Midlands Archery Society contested the Thoresby Trophy at Welbeck's ground. This is a very big shoot; 35 targets and approximately 130 archers on the day. Conditions were dry and mild with a reasonably steady breeze blowing towards the targets.
Eight BLCAC archers turned out to represent Nottinghamshire, with the whole of the longbow team coming from Bingham;
Ian Christopher (compound) Shani Lambert, Sue Haynes, Janet Smeeton, Mike Coward (recurve) Adrianne Goodwin, Dave Seymour, Steve Gamble (longbow)
Two personal performances deserve a special mention; Sue Haynes shot a PB 847 in only her 4th Hereford (having started at 621 back in May) and claimed her White Rose Award and Dave Seymour set a new PB of 422 for the York round.
Derbyshire won both the compound and the recurve competitions, with Nottinghamshire avoiding last place in both of these. After a tense day and some very narrow margins the Nottinghamshire longbow team triumphed and prevented a Derbyshire clean sweep. Special mention for determination to Adrianne Goodwin who put in a really good finish to her Hereford despite having to overcome an arm injury that got steadily worse through the day.
Sat 4th September 2010
Martin Jones and Bryan Haynes (along with his bow) travelled to Pontefract Castle to shoot the Pomfret60 hosted by Wakefield Archers. This is one of only 2 remaining shoots in the UK that is shot inside a castle grounds, the other being in Edinburgh. The day had 5 seperate events.
10 Dozen arrows at standard 122cm targets at 50 yards
Break the Stick ( a target is placed around 20 yards with a 3 " plank of wood placed on the target. 3 arrows are shot to see who can break the wood. Those that broke it, then went into a shoot off with 1 arrow until the last man standing won). Martin got through to the 2nd round, Bryan missed his preliminary 3.
Shoot the Bear - a 3' high bear was put ont he field around 20 yards. You had 3 arrows to hit the bear. those that hit the bear, went through to round 2, hit inside the red circle with 1 arrow. The bear was then moved to around 30 yeards, 1 arrow to hit the gold. this continued until the last man standing won. Again, Martin went through to the 3rd round, Bryan was eaten by the bear!!
Speed shoot - shoot as many arrows as you can in 30 seconds, the person with the most amount of hits on target at 20 yards wins. Martin shot 4 arrows and hit 1, Bryan shot 5 and hit 5. The winner from Wakefield Archers, hit 8 arrows in 30 seconds.
The final competition was a 3 arrow Agincourt Volley. Bryan hit 3 from 3, martin hit 1 but shot one arrow over the castle walls and down into the undergrowth, never to be seen again!!
All in all, an excellent fun longbow day was had by all, and our thanks go out to Deryck and the guys from Wakefield Archers for setting the event up. Alot of time was spent roping the castle off, the working party were there before 7am.

Sun 29th August 2010
Mick Coward, Shani Lambert, Sue Haynes and Bryan Haynes drove up to Danum Archers in Doncaster on Sunday morning to shoot at their Albion and for the 3 recurve archers, Mick, Shani and Sue to hold on to their team trophy from last year
The day was a mixed bag of weather, with sun, strong winds and some rain. Despite that, the recurve guys did their best. Sue won First Lady Recurve (increasing her PB by 69), Mick First Gent Recurve and Shani 3rd Lady Recurve. The team were pipped at the post for the team Trophy by Green Man Archery Club with 2 gents and 1 lady (but we did take the first place individual trophies off them this year)

Sue Haynes and Mick Coward with their Individual Recurve Winners Trophies
All was not well in the longbow Camp or should we say no bow camp. After leaving Bingham at 7.45, driving the 55 miles to Danum, battling with the wind to get the tent setup on the front row, it was time for a cup of tea and to put the longbow in its place, infront of the tent. But where was the longbow - still sleeping in its bed back at Bingham! So, off trots Bryan back to Bingham on a 110 mile round trip with only 1 hour to go before shoting starts.
A telephone call which woke his neighbours up to try and let Martin into the house to get the bow, so that Martin could meet Bryan near Newark and pass the bow over. No, No, No, No the key did not fit. On the return leg from Bingham to Doncaster, Bryan had to battle past a combined-harvester, tractors and a number of Grandads on their bank holiday trip to the carboot sales.
On arriving back at Danum, the rest of the field were starting their 3rd half dozen arrows out of 3 dozen. A quick chat with the judges by Trevor Astley (Scarborough Archers notorious winder-upper man and all round good longbow shooter) saw Bryan try to catch up, shooting dozen arrows where everyone shot six arrows. But, after the end of the 80 yards, 36 arrows were shot in record time (having to use a mixture of 3 different sets) and scored 39 points! At the end of the shoot, Bryan eventually came around mid way in the pack, not breaking any records with a 254 score but did have 2 snapped arrows in the boss due to the heavy cross wind in the last dozen arrows.
The final note on this comes from Dave Seymour who has just emailed in welcominig Bryan to the "left my bow at home" club.

Bryan was awarded the stick award by the Danum guys for his efforts to keep the show rolling on.
Thu 26th August 2010
Congratulations go to longbow shooter Martin Jones, who in one season has gone from unclassified to Bowman. During August, Martin has put in 3 First Class scores and 3 Bowman scores.
AUGUST MESSAGE FROM YOUR CLUB SECRETARY - SIMON
Mon 16th August 2010
Another busy weekend by Bingham Archers
Saturday saw Adrianne Goodwin, Hazel Conolly, Martin Jones and Bryan Haynes go to Chantry to shoot in the Yorkshire Longbow Championships a 2 way York for the Gents and a double 2 way National for the ladies, all shot under BLBS Rules (no sighters or bouncers). It was a windy day, which causes many interesting challenges as with a 2 way shoot as the wind was right to left on the first end, left to right on the second end. It threatened rain until early afternoon, but apart from a 5 minute downpour at one of the breaks, the rain kept away and infact the sun came out in the afternoon. Adrianne 2nd Lady Vistiors with a combined 563 score, Bryan took 2nd Gents Visitor with a 183 score. Martin did a personal best for his york round, however, Hazel was a little dissppointed on the day.
Sunday the club had archers in 3 different tournaments.
Dave Seymour went to shoot in the Gloucestershire Championships and shot a 374 longbow york, to give him his 3rd and final Master Bowman score, smiles were all round. General roumour was that Dave took his bow to bed the night before so that he would not forget it this week.
Steve Gamble shot a York round at Abbeydale, the day was good, but he did not have the best of days shooting.
Finally, the club went mob handed again to the last of the three Notts County League shoots, shooting an American round with 10 zone scoring. The final results were worked out on the best 2 scores out of the 3 shoots. As well as the scratch scores, adjusted score handicaps were also competed for.
Wilford Bowmen put on a good day, even booking a nice warm day, with little wind. Entertainment was laid on with a Carribbean Carnival going on close by, so piped music was the order of the day, and a loud cheering crowd could be heard with Notts Forest playing at home.
1st Gents Compond - Ian Christopher
Lady Recurve Handicap Score winner - Vicky Jones

Jim Johnson was pleased with his team from Toothill School (an affiliated junior club with Bingham)
2nd Junior Lady Recurve - Sarah Hindson

Bingham would like to thank Sherwood Archers and Wilford Bowmen for putting on the 3 League events between them and also Sue and Mario Stankovic for their stella work in the background undertaking administration, scoring and judging duties.
Mon 9th August 2010
Whata busy weekend. Saturday saw 7 archers go to Southwell to shoot in the Firelight 50 shoot at Sherwood Archers in Southwell. A fun evening was had by all, and for most of us, it was our first time shooting in the dark (well apart from us who normally keep our eyes closed of course). Sighters (or should we say Sounders) were at 9.15pm as the last rays of light left the evening sky, and the 6 dozen arrows at 50 yards followed through the evening to gone midnight. The targets were illuminated by small lights placed just in front of the stands which gave just enough light to see the target faces (despite Bryan Haynes trying to plunge the place in to darkness by putting longbow arrows through the power cable, not once, but twice! Mario then put a big plank of wood over the cable to stop him - booooo!!). Once again, the ladies kept the honour of the club, with Adrianne Goodwin taking third place in the non-sighted bows.
Sunday saw 6 archers go to Spalding to shoot in the Record and Rose Status shoot at Silverspoon Bowmen. A very hot day, with little wind saw an excellent days shooting. Personal Bests were shot by most archers. The longbow trophy came back to Bingham for a third year in succession with Bryan Haynes, scoring 188 on his first York Round, taking the honours (following in the distinguised footsteps of Dave Seymour 2008 and Steve Gamble 2009). Martin Jones followed closely in second place with a 152, putting in his second 1st class score in a week (following his New National Score of 60 the day before).
John Docherty shot a credible 508 on his second ever gents recurve York. Simon Barnicotte - now back on the tournament circuit after a few years off, scored a 742 Hereford gents recurve coming 3rd Gent, Vicky Jones a 609 Bristol II coming in 2nd ladiy recurve and Charlie James a 738 Bristol III coming 2nd junior U16 lady recurve.
As well as these, the County Team were in action at the Tri-Counties Tournament at Meriden. Dave Seymour, after leaving his bow at home and having to go back and collect it, shot an outstanding 650 Gents FITA Longbow, gaining him is second Master Bowman score of the year, a New County Record and 1st place in the Gents FITA Longbow, taking the Notts Longbow team into 2nd place overall.
Fri 6th August 2010
Club Handicaps have been updated
Reminder to all archers from all clubs, we have the club outdoor Western tournamnet on Sunday 12th September, if you want to shoot, fill in the entry form and send it off to Maurice Clark ASP. Maurice would like a working party at 8.30am from club members to help setup on the morning of the shoot.
On Sunday 15th Aug is the last of the Notts County League shoots at Wilford. It is an american round ( 60yds, 50yds, 40yds 2 1/2 dozen arrows at each distacnce, shorter distances available for juniors). Any club members wanting to shoot, contact Simon Barnicott secretary@binghamarchery.co.uk ASP to be put on the club entry form. More shooters the merrier - so come on down to Wilford and support your club, and supports Nottinghgamshire Archery.
Good luck to our club members who are shooting in the Tri-counties as part of Nottinghamshire County Team on Sunday
Janet Smeeton and Shani Lambert - Ladies Recurve
Adrianne Goodwin - Ladies Longbow
Dave Seymour - Gents Longbow
Mick Coward - Gents Recurve
Ian Christopher - Gents Compound
Sue Haynes - Ladies Recurve Reserve
It is with sad regret that Pete Hyam has decided to hang up his quiver, convert his arrows and longbow into fishing rods and to stop shooting. "Uncle" Pete has been a good club member and always a cheery member of the longbow crew - especially in the cold, frosty winter Sunday mornings. Pete - good luck and come back to join us if you decide to take up archery again.
Sun 1st August 2010
Sunday 1st August saw another good haul of medals from the Longbow team. 4 archers went up to Danum Archers in Doncaster to take part in the Doncaster and District Archery Top Town Tournement. Despite the promise of a showery day, it stayed fine and warm, with a mild wind. After a delayed start to the shoot, an Albion round, things got off to a bit of a shakey start for Steve, who ended up 1 point behind Bryan Haynes at the end of 80 yards. The natural order of balance was restored at 60 and 50 yards with Steve opening up a 130 point gap by the end of the tournament
Tables were turned in the Ladies contingent this week
Adrianne Goodwin 2nd Lady Longbow
Hazel Conolly 3rd Lady Longbow
Steve Gamble 3rd Gents Longbow and Notts County Record
Bryan Haynes shot a personal best round, by adding 23 points to his previous best Albion round.
Dave Seymour ventred away from the normal route of Bingham archers to enter the NCAS 3rd Caswell shoote at Wickney Archery club to shoot a record status FITA, shooting a personal best of 510 and came 2nd Gents Longbow
Sun 25 July 2010
Its a clean sweep for the Bingham Ladies at Kedleston Hall. 5 ladies and 2 gents went to shoot a Windsor round at Kedleston Hall on Sunday 25th July. It was a full shoot on 16 targets on a nice warm day, with a slight tail wind. The Bingham ladies all took home bragging rights and the medals, the gents went home emtpy handed.
Janet Smeeton 1st lady Recure
Sue Haynes 3rd Lady Recurve
Hazel Conolly 1st Lady Longbow
Adrianne Goodwin 2nd Lady Longbow
Vicky Jones 1st Lady Handicap adjusted score
Hazel Conolly 2nd Lady Handicap adjusted score
Sue Haynes 3rd Lady Handicap adjusted score
Bryan Haynes shot a personal best and a county record with his longbow of 387, deposing Jim Johnson off his top spot of 316 which has stood for over 12 years. Bryan actually shot a 326 last year but did not realise it was a county record until it was too late.
Martin Jones shot well, shooting just under his personal best, but did manage to break another arrow, he is down to 6 now, so our master arrow maker Steve Gamble will be on manufacturing duties again we think.
Sat 24h July 2010
Saturday saw the best turn out of the season for a normal club shooting day at Bingham Leisure Centre. We had 8 targets on the field, all full. We were very glad to see 3 new junior members who came off the recent beginners course, 2 shooting recurve and 1 longbow. All in all we had over 30 archers shooting, including 8 juniors and 5 ladies. We had a mixture of longbow, recurve and compound bows with targets at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 x 2 and 100 yards plus one at 70m. 3 people shot an american round, whilst 3 longbows shot a New National round. All in all, a very good afternoon was had by all.
Sue Haynes was also told that she is to be the reserve lady recurve archer for the Notts County Team at the Tri-Counties shoot at Meriden on the 8th August.
Fri 16 July & Sat 17th July 2010
On Friday 16th July, 7 archers went to RAF Cranwell to shoot inthe RAF v Civil Service v Police annual tournament. This year the weather was dry, but there was a very strong tail wind. This meant that it was all hands on deck when the archers were setting up their tents. Once again, the Bingham contigent kept their end up with a good clutch of medals
Steve Gamble - 2nd Gent Longbow York
Ian Christopher - 2nd Gent CompoundYork (also shooting for the Police team which beat the RAF)
Mick Coward - 2nd Gent Recurve York - also putting in his first 1000 point York round
Shani Lambert - 2nd Lady Recurve Hereford - also putting in her first 900+ Hereford round
Bryan Haynes - 1st Gent longbow Hereford
Maurice Clarke, the tournemant organiser, also shot for the Police Team who beat the RAF but were underdogs to the Civil Service team who were outstanding
On behalf of the visitors from Bingham, we would like to thank Maurice for putting on the tournament, his wife Chris for an excellent buffet again, and also the RAF for supplying the venue.
On Saturday 17th July, 4 archers were also invited to shoot at the RAF Championships again at RAF Cranwel, with everyone shooting an Albion round. Again, there was a tail wind, but not as strong as the previous day, and we did stay fairly dry.
Sue Haynes Ladies Recurve 1st lady visitor, 2nd overall lady
Bryan Haynes Gents Longbow, 1st visitor, 1st overall ,
Martin Jones Gents Longbow, 2nd visitor, 2nd overall, beating the RAF Champion by over 30 points
Maruice Clarke Gents Recurve, 1st visitor
Sun 11th July 2010
On Sunday 11 July Rolls Royce Bowmen of Sherwood hosted the Nottinghamshire Archery Society outdoor championships on their ground at Hucknall. Fifteen Bingham archers attended to try their luck at the York/Hereford/Bristol rounds.
Although the weather was fine and dry all day there was a very frustrating wind that changed from one arrow to the next. Another challenge for the longbowers was the rock hard ground that made it impossible to tell whether the strays were long or short of the target, indeed it was so hard that at least one longbow arrow broke on landing during the 100 yard distance.
There were mixed results from the club, with 3 archers coming away as county champions, again.
Congratulations to the following County Champions for 2010
Adrianne Goodwin - Ladies Longbow
Steve Gamble - Gents Longbow
Ian Christopher - Gents Compound

Amongst our other collection of medals for the day were
Janet Smeeton - Ladies Recurve Runner up
Dave Seymour - Gents Longbow York 3rd Place
Bryan Haynes - Gents Longbow Hereford winner
Sue Haynes - Ladies Handicap group 50- 54
Vicky Denton - Ladies Handicap group 55 - 100
Other notable achievements
Martin Jones added over 80 points to his personal best for a Gents Longbow Hereford
Bryan Haynes added 121 points to his personal best for a Gents Longbow Hereford
Sue Haynes added 88 points to her personal best for a Ladies Recurve Hereford
Charlie James added over 80 points to her personal best for a junior lady Bristol III and her first 1st Class Score and reduced her handicap by 3, whilst shooting only her second 12 dozen round.
There were a few muttering in the Longbow York group when Dave Seymour missed the target at 100 yards putting his arrow in prime Longbow territory, so to add insult to injury, his old adversory, Steve Gamble put his arrow straight through the middle of Dave's arrow shaft winning the oops award of the day!!
This shoot was also the third of three County Selection Shoots to which we have a number of archers in the 2010 Notts County Team
Ladies Recurve Shani Lambert and Janet Smeeton
Ladies Longbow Adrianne Goodwin
Gents Longbow Steve Gamble and Dave Seymour
Gents Recurve Mick Coward
Gents Compound Ian Christopher
well done to you all
Sun 4th July 2010
On Sunday 5 July 8 Bingham archers attended the "Day of Nationals" shoot hosted by Sherwood Archers. Being archers we did manage to find fault with a tricky wind that came and went unpredictably on what was otherwise a lovely day for shooting.
Most senior archers shot a Long National (4 dozen at 80 yards, 2 at 60) in the morning followed by a National in the afternoon (4 dozen at 60, 2 at 50) and there was plenty of success for Bingham.
Ian Christopher won the gents compound with a total score of 1228.
Mike Coward won the gents recurve with 1104, with Maurice Clarke in second place on 1032.
Janet Smeeton recorded 1045 to take the honours in the ladies recurve.
Steve Gamble put in a 687 to win the gents longbow. Steve's score included a 421 for the National, which is a Nottinghamshire record and a 266 for the Long National, which would be an EMAS record both subject to claim and ratification by the appropriate records officers.
Given that Bingham had won all three bowstyles the team prize (one compound, one recurve and one longbow all shooting Long National/National) was a bit predictable!
For the Double National Round, Adrianne Goodwin won the ladies longbow followed Hazel Conolly who came second
For Bryan Haynes it was a mixed day; looking on the bright side he recorded his third first class score and will receive the badge at the AGM, he also took the cash in the unofficial longbow sweepstake for the best longbow gold at the longest distance. On the other side of the coin he also "won" the award for the worst white; apparently Sue had explained exactly what she would be stirring with it if he came home with another wooden spoon for his collection!
Sat 3rd July 2010
4 archers from Bingham took the trip up the M1 to Rotherham to shoot at the Chantry Sword shoot, a 2 way Stafford (30m). Results were not as good as last year, with none of the archers taking away any silverware, however, Martin Jones did manage to beat Bryan Haynes for the second time this season outdoors.
Sun 27th June 2010
On Sunday 207th June club 6 archers went to Burton Bridge Archers to shoot at their Open Western. It was a blistering hot day with a slight cross wind. There were a number of water buckets put out on the line, which were used very effectively to dunk hats in to keep archers cool.
Adrianne Goodwin came 1st Lady Longbow, with Hazel Connolly not far behind.
Sue Haynes came 4th - "only 6 points behind 3rd place!!" as we were informed throughout the trip back
Vicky Jones put over 140 points onto her personal best giving her 366, and her husband Martin Jones also shot a personal best of 262
.
Wed 23rd June 2010
On Wednesday 23 June a dozen Bingham archers travelled to Hucknall to shoot the midsummer tournament hosted by Rolls Royce Bowmen of Sherwood. The weather was perfect and the round was a Short National (4 dozen at 50 yards, 2 dozen at 40) for everyone.
Mike Coward came second in the gents recurve with 606, Shani Lambert took the same placing in the ladies with 566 (reducing her handicap again in the process).
Charlie James shot exactly to her handicap and scored 234 to come second in the junior ladies recurve putting in the third score needed to gain her second class award.
Adrianne Goodwin came second in the ladies longbow, so despite her best efforts the records officer now knows she scored 250.
Three archers won their sections; Janet Smeeton scored 600 to take the ladies recurve, Ian Christother shot 642 to take the gents compound and Steve Gamble put in a 512 to take the gents longbow.
Monday 21st June 2010
A message from your club secretary, Simon Barnicott
Sun 20th June 2010
On Sunday 20 June club longbow shooters Dave Seymour and Steve Gamble travelled to the EMAS outdoor championships hosted by Burton Bridge Archers (great venue, shoot there if you get the chance). The round was a York and conditions were almost perfect for archery.
Dave scored 325 to come third while Steve put in a PB 442 to take the trophy (finally shooting a York round to handicap!). As well as the win this means that Steve now has the three scores required for submission of a Master Bowman claim to GNAS.
As well as the EMAS champs, 4 longbow archers ventured out to to shoot the Derbyshire Archery Club (DAC) Longbow Windsor round at Keddleston Hall. The weather was excellent, no wind and Sunny. Adrianne Goodwin won the Ladies section with 96 hits and Hazel Connolly came 4th lady. Martin Jones put in a personal best score of 314, gaining him his first 2nd Class score and his first win over his arch rival Bryan Haynes, who put in a meagre 285!
.
Sat 13th & Sun 14th June 2010
On Sunday 13 June club longbow shooters Dave Seymour and Steve Gamble and junior recurve shooter Philippa Gamble travelled to the Lincolnshire outdoor championships hosted by Pilgrim Bowmen of Boston (good venue, shoot there if you get the chance). The round was a York and conditions were almost perfect for archery.
After a storming 170 plus on the 100 yard distance Dave scored a frustrating 340 while Steve put in a 354 to take the win, narrowly missing the third score needed for a Master Bowman claim.
Despite not having shot for too long because of the pressures of AS level exams Philippa put in a respectable 819 on the Bristol 2
Once again, Mario and his team of merry men and ladies at Sherwood archers put on a double tournament weekend, for the second weekend on the trot.
Saturday was a World Record Status FITA., with only one Bingham Archer attending the day - Bryan Haynes shooting his longbow. Bryan shot a county record for a gents longbow shooting the ladies FITA. round (70m, 60m, 50m & 30m) with a score of 313.
On Sunday, Shani Lambert and Mick Coward also joined Bryan at Sherwood Archers to shoot a Double 70m FITA. Bryan, again the only longbow shot 93 in the monring, narrowly missing his first First class award, but improved this to a 168 in the afternoon to gain his first of 3 reqruied First class awards and again setting a new county gents longbow record for a Single FITA 70m of 168 and a Doubl eFITA 70m of 261. Mick Coward won the Gents Recurve Double 70m FITA with a 599 and 562 giving him a total of 1161, and Shani Lambert came 3rd lady with 422 and 247 giving a total of 669
Sat 5th & Sun 6th June 2010
Last weekend saw two days of competitive action for Bingham archers.
Saturday 6th June saw 8 club members taking part in the 62nd Golden Arrow tournament hosted by Sherwood Archers on behalf of Nottinghamshire.
It was a hot and heavy day with thundery rain threatening so it was a good thing it was a short round (6 dozen at 60 yards).
Success again beckoned for Bingham archers; Shani Lambert won the Bath and West Horn trophy for winning her handicap group, Steve Gamble won the Gents Longbow trophy, with what is believed to be a new best performance by a Nottinghamshire archer and Ian Christopher won the Gents Compound trophy.
Sunday 7th June saw 11 members of Bingham LCAC together with two juniors (Abbi Kennie and Sarah Hindson) shooting for Toot Hill School, attend the Oregon Challenge also hosted by Sherwood Archers on behalf of Nottinghamshire.
The early morning torrential rain and thunder luckily subsided and by the start of the shoot the weather was overcast and fine, however waterproof clothing remained close to hand.
The Oregon Challenge started in 1956 and is an archery competition between the Nottinghamshire County Archery Society and the Sylvan Archers of Sherwood, Oregon, USA. The Nottinghamshire team scores are mailed to the Sylvan Archers where they remain secret until the Sylvan Archers hold their shoot during their Robin Hood Festival in July, with the successful team winning a Tiffany silver bowl.
Success came to Abbi Kennie (Toot Hill School) who won The Hallsworth Trophy for the highest scoring junior archer shooting an American round (2 ½ doz at 60, 50 and 40 yards) and Sue Haynes who won The Sharp Goblet.
Also last weekend Dave Seymour travelled to Leamington Spa to shoot a double York round with his combined score of 689 securing first position, with his best individual score of 399 being his first Master Bowmen score, also securing a Blue Rose award.
30th May 2010
The second county selection shoot at Welbeck on Sunday 30 May saw 8 Bingham archers on the line. There were 37 targets laid out with almost 140 archers braving the day.
Although the day stayed dry, just, there was such a strong headwind all day that walking to the targets to collect the arrows was hard work. Some archers were "blown away" by the conditions and called it a day part way through, but all the Bingham shooters made it to the end of their rounds.
Shani came second overall in the ladies recurve with 843 for the Hereford round, claiming her white rose.
Steve Gamble came second in a very close gents longbow competition, shooting a personal best 383 for the York round to claim a blue longbow rose.
The recurve team of Sue Haynes, Shani Lambert and Mike Coward came away with the Recurve Team Trophy.
Bryan Haynes came 2nd in the Gents Longbow Hereford followed by Martin Jones 3rd.
24th May 2010
Several club members attended the Notts selection shoot at Wilford on Sunday.
The weather was hot, with temperatures in the high 20s, but a tricky wind that made the longer distances a challenge.
Notts team selection is based on the finishing position compared to other Notts archers.
Janet Smeeton came third in the ladies recurve.
Ian Christopher came second compound overall, but top Notts compounder.
Steve Gamble came second in the gents longbow, but top among the Notts archers, with Dave Seymour one place behind.
Hazel Conolly came second lady longbow
Simon Barnicott came 2dn gent in the Long National shoot
Special mention for Shani Lanbert and Charlie James, who both shot very well (Charlie shooting a 12 dozen round for the first time and shooting 4 points below her handicap).
10th May 2010
13 club members including 3 juniors made their way to the first Nottinghamshire County League Shoot and first leg of the Orgeon Challenge shoot at Sherwood Archers. The round was an American (2 1/2 dozen arrows at 60, 50 & 40 yds but with American Scoring). It was a challenging day, windy but dry. Full results have not yet been issued.
On the same day, Steve Gamble and Dave Seymour made their way to shoot a York around at Bowmen of Glenn in Leicester. Steve did not have a good day, but Dave did manage to come second - well done Dave
9th May 2010
On Saturday, 3 club archers went up to shoot at Chantry Bowmen of Rotherham to shoot a BLBS 2 Way Western. Although it was raining in Bingham, it stayed dry at Chantry, although it was a windy day. Hazel, Bryan and Martin all shot, not at their best, but did have a good day and did not let the club down.
25th April 2010 - Club Handicaps
The latest sheet of club outdoor handicaps have been posted. . At the moment people are shooting pretty much to classification and handicap, which seems a good thing so early in the outdoor season
Martin Jones has achieved a 3rd class with his long bow - well done Martin.
Vicky Jones and Sue Haynes have both improved their handicaps by 3
11th April 2010 Pie And Peas, Bassetlaw Bowmen at Worksop
On Sunday 8 members of Bingham Archery club travelled to a competition hosted by Bassetlaw Bowmen at Worksop. The round shot was a Western, 4 dozen arrows at 60 yards and 4 dozen arrows at 50 yards. Although it was a dry, bright day, the chilly wind meant it was sweatshirts rather than sun block and made shooting tricky at times.
Despite this several club members were placed in the top 3 in their respective classes. Adrianne Goodwin and Hazel Connolly took first and third places in the ladies longbow. Sue Haynes shot a new personal best to come third in the ladies recurve. Steve Gamble won the gents longbow and Vicky Denton-Jones won the novice trophy.
Left to right
Vicky Denton-Jones - Novice Trophy
Adrianne Goodwin - First Lady Longbow
Steve Gamble - First Gents Longbow
Hazel Conolly - Third Lady Longbow
Sue Haynes - Third Lady Recurve
Dave Seymour travelled to Wolverhampton to shoot a York round (6 dozen at 100 yards, 4 doz at 80 yds, 2 doz at 60 yds) and placed second.

Bingham Fair
The club will have a stand at the forthcoming Bingham Fair on June 12th at the Robert Miles School Field. We will be setting up a Have-a-Go session and hopefully get more people interested in archery and our club. Volunteers from the club would be welcome to help setup the stand in the morning and man it on a rota basis during the day. You do not need to be a fully qualified coach to volunteer. If you can spare an hour or so on the day, can you please forward your names to Jim Johnson

Brass Monkey - Pilgrim Bowmen
The club had a good turnout again at the Brass Monkey shoot in Boston. It was an overcast day with some rain, a bit chilly but spirits were high, especially at the longbow end again. Jim did make very good use of the steel fire heaters to keep the chill at bay, managing not to singe or set light to his trousers this year.
